A DNA Paternity Test assesses whether or not a person is the real biological parent of a child. The test is commonly ordered by an individual or couple who needs to know whether the man in question is the child's true biological father, possibly for reasons of custody, child support, or simply for peace of mind. The test may also be used for other purposes, for example to assess maternity, in cases of adoption; to confirm parentage of a child conceived through alternative reproduction technologies; or to investigate familial relationships for legal or immigration purposes.

Synergene offers two types of DNA Paternity Tests. The At-Home Paternity Test¹ provides a simple means for individuals to collect their own samples and order the test without involving a third party. The Official Paternity Test is performed according to a legally endorsed procedure, and is intended for those who may decide to use the results for official purposes. There is no difference between the laboratory methods employed for the two types of Paternity Tests, and the accuracy and reliability of the results obtained are the same.

Synergene supplies a free sample collection kit that employs a simple and painless procedure, using a mouth swab to wipe off a specimen of saliva and cheek cells from a subject's mouth. The collected specimens are deposited in specially supplied packets that are then mailed to our lab.
